We see it time and time again on the ice, poor sportsmanship after giving up a goal. This time it proved to be costly for Florida Panther’s goaltender Thomas Vokoun. Panthers defenseman Keith Ballard pulled the dumbest stunt yet this season while attempting break his stick over the crossbar after Atlanta’s goal midway into the first period, struck his own goaltender in the head.

Vokoun suffered an ear laceration and was alert when taken off the ice on a stretcher. Although there is not a rule of high sticking your own player in the NHL, the Florida Panthers management needs to address this with either a fine or a suspension with out pay to Keith Ballard. This type of behavior should not be tolerated at any level of hockey period. Ballard is lucky that all Vokoun suffered was an ear laceration, this could of been a hell of  a lot worse. GROW UP.

Hockey being a very physical, fast game it often gets tagged as a sport for goons and seeing events like this should bring the critics of hockey down a few notches. This is just a small example of what hockey gives back to the community. If you look in every household across the nation, almost every body knows or has had a family member diagnosed and in some cases have lost a loved one to this terrible disease.

The name of the game is Amy’s initials. She is a sister, wife, mother of three, and friend of hockey players. She is a 38 year old resident of Westwood, MA who was diagnosed with Stage II, Grade 3 Invasive Ductal Carcinoma (breast cancer). She currently has completed her chemotherapy treatments and undergone a lumpectomy. Amy’s walk team for the Avon Foundation Breast Cancer 2-day walk is the 2nd largest team of walkers, with over 30 walkers.

The Walpole Express owned by Rob Barletta are a Junior “A” team that plays plays in the AJHL. The Express places out of the Iorio Arena in Walpole, Massachusetts just minutes from Foxboro Stadium, the home of the New England Patriots.

The “Pink” game will be played on Sunday November 1 where the Walpole Express will take on a huge rival, The Hartford Jr. Wolfpack.
