In case you missed this last week, the International Ice Hockey Federation ordered USA goalie Ryan Miller to remove “Miller Time” and “Matt Man” from his helmet for violation of IOC rule No. 51 that bars advertising, demonstrations and propaganda. Since the Olympics are right around the corner, we figured it would be a good time to get a hockey preview happening. As always, the Canadians are the favored team, but not as much as one would think. The Russians behind superstar players such as Alexander Ovechkin appear to be up to the task of defeating the Canadians. Then there are the Americans, and to be honest it looks like we will need another miracle on ice for us to grab gold. Here are the reports on all of the teams.

The injury bug continues in the NHL with two more stars going to the sidelines. Pittsburgh Penguins star, Evgeni Malkin will miss the next 2 to 3 weeks with a shoulder strain. Malkin has played in 254 consecutive games after missing his first 4 professional games. That streak will obviously come to an end.
Vancouver Canucks goalie, Roberto Luongo will miss at least the next two games as the team travels to sunny California to face the Kings tonight and the Ducks tomorrow night. Luongo has a hairline fracture of a rib on his right side.
Dominic Hasek at 44 years of age was going to make a run to play in the 2010 Olympics and that now seems to be unlikely. Hasek suffered a thigh injury playing in the Czech league this past weekend and will be out for 3 weeks.
Philly’s Simon Gagne had double hernia surgery along with hip surgery back in 2006-2007 and is now facing the possibility of another one.
Flyers GM Paul Holmgren said earlier Tuesday that Gagne was examined by Dr. Allen Schurict from Pennsylvania Hospital after an ultrasound found the hernias in his right groin area. He said the team’s medical staff will discuss with Gagne his options on Wednesday *source- nhl.com
Gagne is looking to compete in his third Oympics for Team Canada but now is in jeopardy of missing the competition in February.
There is another report of the H1N1 virus in the NHL. Edmonton Oilers defenseman Ladislav Smid has been diagnosed with the virus. Although several of the Oilers players have flu like symptoms, Smid is the only case of H1N1 confirmed.
